Insomnia

I was lying in bed and counting sheep, as I hadn't slept well for a month.
I'd ticked off scores of the wretched things, and this was the n-plus-oneth,
An enormous ram with curving horns, quite two feet round at the bole,
And I thought to myself as I lay in bed, he's surely more than a whole.
Should I make it n-plus-one-and-a-half, or maybe one-and-a-third.
But I must have been thinking it out aloud, for I'm sure the creature heard,
For he glared at me with his fiery eye and snorted and stamped the ground.
I must count this monster fast, I thought, for I didn't quite like the sound.
Too late! He had charged, and his thundering hooves were flinging the sparks in showers.
But 'twas all for the best, for he knocked me cold, and I didn't wake up for hours.
